New piercing on your mind? Let us introduce you to the hidden helix piercing, the latest trend in the piercing world and new to our stores. Unique, enchanting and more attention-grabbing than it sounds, this piercing is a simple way to make your ear stack stand out from the crowd.

What is a hidden helix piercing?

A hidden helix piercing is a cartilage piercing placed in the inner fold of the upper ear, thoughtfully placed to conceal the main body of the piercing jewellery. With the proper anatomy, this creates the enchanting illusion of a floating piercing. It's an elegant addition to your ear stack that’s popular for its unique and magical look.

What jewellery is compatible with a hidden helix piercing?

A true hidden helix piercing requires specific ear anatomy to accommodate the piercing jewellery. At A&M, our hidden helix piercing studs feature curved front posts that are designed to sit hidden under the upper fold of the ear, whilst their decorative charms dangle down the flat of your ear to be admired.

If your ear anatomy is not quite right for a hidden helix piercing, a similar effect can be created with our Charm Piercing Studs

What ear anatomy do you need for a hidden helix piercing?

We asked our piercers what anatomy they look for in a hidden helix piercing appointment, so you can check whether it sounds right for you.

“The ideal candidate for a hidden helix is someone with a prominent curve in the upper part of the helix, this does well to disguise part of the jewellery, leaving only the decorative part on display and creating a ‘floating’ illusion.”

How painful is a hidden helix piercing?

Cartilage piercings can feel slightly sharper than lobe piercings, but everyone’s pain tolerance is different so experiences may vary. It’s worth noting that getting multiple piercings in one session can increase the overall discomfort (but it’s a small price to pay for your dream ear stack!)

How do I look after my new piercing?

To make sure your piercings heal properly, you’ll need to give them some love and care along the way. Healing time will vary person to person, but here are our top tips for a smooth aftercare process

  • Clean your piercing with Aftercare Solution twice a day until it is fully healed. You should do this for a minimum of 6-12 months for cartilage. Spray the front and back of your piercing and dry the area with a clean paper towel afterwards.

  • Outside of cleaning, try to avoid touching your piercing, and when you have to, always wash your hands.

  • Try to avoid sleeping on your piercing as this can cause irritation.

  • Have your piercing jewellery downsized after about 6 weeks, once the initial swelling has subsided. This will help the rest of the healing process go smoothly.

  • Wait until your piercing has fully healed before changing the jewellery.

How long does a hidden helix piercing take to heal?

Cartilage piercings can take 6-12 months to heal, and keeping up with your aftercare during this time is key. Think of it as an important part of showing your new piercing some love.
